Cocoa drink and its relationship to intelligence
In a recent study conducted by researchers from England and the United States of America, the result of which was the effect of cocoa drink on the performance of healthy adults was better in difficult cognitive tasks.
Cocoa contains flavanols, which are known for their beneficial effects on the heart and blood vessel health. As for the results of that study, they proved that it increases the functions of blood vessels in the brain as well, which increases cognitive performance and increases mental agility in dealing with cognitive tasks.
Flavanols are antioxidants that are found in many vegetables and fruits, especially berries, pears and apples, as well as peanuts and in tea as well.
Study author (Katharina Rendero) from the University of Birmingham in England said that flavanols are small molecules found in many fruits, vegetables and cocoa. They are the ones that give fruits their bright color, and they are also known to have a positive effect on blood vessels in the brain and cognitive functions.
So, two types of cocoa were tested in two different experiments, the first in which people consumed cocoa rich in flavanols, and the second group dealt with processed cocoa with very low levels of flavanols. Eat flavanol-poor cocoa.
The results of the study concluded that cocoa drink leads to increased activity in the blood vessels of the brain, which is related to improving a person's cognitive functions.
