In a valuable initiative launched by the Algerian authorities at the country level, aiming at re-afforestation to preserve green areas, after fires devoured large areas of forests.
A government investigation was opened into the fires, which devoured the forests in Oran, Chlef, Blida and Tipaza, to identify their causes, and some were suspected of "criminal acts." It was not immediately clear what caused it.
The initiative met with general acceptance by the volunteers, and volunteer Hamash Ammar said (This is a humanitarian initiative against the enemies of the environment, and we promise God to guide these people who burned forests, and God willing, there will be more initiatives so that every Algerian will have ten trees and not one tree).
The afforestation initiative includes planting tree seedlings in all Algerian forests, with the help of firefighters, the army and civilian volunteers, in place of trees that were destroyed by fire.
One of the firefighters called Karim, saying: We ask everyone who can plant a tree in front of his house, let him do so for the return of green to the forest.
Reuters quoted a member of the army, Mohammed,. Today, we conducted a joint afforestation campaign with all our brothers and planted trees as you can see after the forest burned. I hope that God guides the cause of the forest fire.
"They are burning and we are planting ... they are demolishing and we are rebuilding the new Algeria," said Jamila Shatteh of the Algerian Federation for Peace and Humanity.
For his part, Hani, a forest keeper, said, "Planting the soul for children .. Afforestation to preserve the environment and trees."
