The US Secretary of State announced the imposition of economic sanctions on 4 companies for accusing them of supporting Iran's nuclear program and providing advanced technology for the Iranian nuclear missile program, and said that those sanctions would last for two years.
These companies are (Chengdu Best Naturals and Zippo Elem Trade) in China, while in Russia there are two companies (Nilco Group and Joint Stock Company Eleon).
"We will continue to use all the sanctions available to us to prevent Iran from increasing its nuclear capability," Pompeo said.
The move comes at a time when Iran is offering to return to compliance with the nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama if President-elect Joe Biden lifted sanctions after taking office on January 20.
The outgoing President Donald Trump adopted a policy of "maximum pressure" against Tehran, which included in particular the unilateral withdrawal in 2018 from the agreement on its nuclear program and the re-imposition of harsh economic sanctions on it.
