Plant foods are not equally healthy !!!!
Most nutritional studies sort vegetarian diets simply as vegan or low-meat, so treat all plant foods equally. The unique aspect of this studies was that it examined the type of plant foods consumed, as well as the total amount. Healthy plant products were mainly the least processed foods, such as fruits, whole grains, vegetables, olive oil, nuts,etc.... The unhealthy vegetarian products consist of juices,
refined grains,potatoes, sweetened drinks, and any kind of desserts .
The studies tested the relationship between the quantity and quality of plant foods and heart health over a 10 year period.
When it comes to the quality of plant foods, healthy options have been associated with maintaining normal blood pressure, blood fats and blood sugar. Conversely, eating unhealthy plant-based foods has been linked with high blood pressure, higher blood lipids, and high blood sugar. These relationships were stronger for women than for men.
In 2001 and 2002, the study selected randomly a sample of adults staying in Athens who did not have cardiovascular disease or other chronic conditions. The current analysis was performed on 146 obese participants with normal blood pressure, blood lipids and blood sugar. The diet was assessed using a questionnaire on habitual habits in the previous year. It listed 156 foods and drinks commonly consumed in Greece, with pictures to help identify portion sizes.
In a decade, half of these obese participants developed high blood lipids, high blood pressure,, and high blood sugar - a combination that was particularly dangerous to heart health.
Men who eat more plant foods were less likely to have this deterioration in health. A way was also observed in women, but it is not reach statistical significance.
